Icelandic Bike Builds Homes in Haiti

Leighton Buzzard resident, David Thompson, from VINCI Construction UK’s Technology Centre, has just returned from  joining a friend who is cycling around the perimeter of Iceland - a 1340km journey which starts in Reykjavik and will last for approximately a month.

David completed a 400km section in 10 ten days and the route took them through a volcanic landscape, mountains, along rough coastal paths and camping in the wilderness and all for a good cause.  The epic bike ride will be raising money for the not-for-profit organisation Pane Condiviso Associazione di Voluntariato in Haiti.

Pane Condiviso has already succeeded in building over 50 modest anti-seismic three-bedroom houses with amenities, opened an orphanage hosting children between the ages of 8 and 15, and created opportunities for young people to pursue a university education.

David Thompson of VINCI Construction UK said:

“Despite the occasional attack by Arctic Terns(!), it was a thrilling experience for a very worthy cause of rebuilding homes following the tragic consequences of the earthquake in 2010.”
